Privacy Policy

Introduction
Not Reading All That ("we", "us", "our", "the extension", "the service") is a browser extension that provides AI-powered summaries of web pages. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension and associated services.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in an open and transparent manner. Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not use the extension.
Information We Collect
Page Content (Processed, Not Stored)
When you request a summary, we temporarily process the text content of the webpage you are viewing. This content is sent to our servers and forwarded to AI providers (Anthropic Claude or OpenAI) to generate summaries. We do not permanently store the raw page content after processing is complete.
Cached Summaries
To improve performance and reduce redundant processing, we cache generated summaries. When another user visits the same page, they may receive the cached summary instead of generating a new one. Cached data includes:
- Page URL (normalized)
- Content hash (to detect page changes)
- Generated summary text
- Summary mode and language
- Anonymous user number of the person who first summarized the page
- Token usage statistics
Usage Statistics
We collect anonymous usage data to improve the service and provide you with personalized statistics. This includes:
- Number of summaries you have generated
- Approximate word count of pages you have summarized
- Number of pages you have "discovered" (first to summarize)
- Timestamps of usage for rate limiting purposes
- Summary mode preferences (Original, ELI5, Deeper)
Device Identifier
We generate a random, anonymous identifier that is stored locally in your browser's extension storage. This identifier allows us to track your usage across sessions without requiring an account. This identifier is not linked to your personal identity unless you choose to verify your email address.
Email Address (Optional)
You may optionally provide your email address to verify your account and receive unlimited access to the service. If you provide your email, we store it securely and use it only for:
- Account verification via one-time passcode
- Important service announcements (rare)
- Account recovery if needed
We will never sell your email address or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
Technical Information
Our servers automatically collect certain technical information when you use the service, including:
- IP address (for rate limiting and abuse prevention)
- Request timestamps
- Error logs for debugging purposes
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Generate AI-powered summaries of web pages you request
- Cache summaries to improve performance for all users
- Track and display your personal statistics (time saved, pages discovered)
- Authenticate and verify user accounts
- Prevent abuse and enforce rate limits
- Improve and optimize the service
- Debug issues and fix bugs
- Comply with legal obligations
Information Sharing and Disclosure
